Evaluation

For a first time live show, the broadcast went well. We had a run through of the show, and we managed to get the timing near to 30 minutes. Luckily the actual show was slightly longer, and took us nearer to the 30 minutes, with the show ending 15 seconds before the 30 minute mark.

During the broadcast, I felt there were no major hiccups, apart from one particular moment where the tape with the packages on rewound slightly and therefor messed up the starting point for the package set up to play.

My roles were camera operator and floor manager. As the floor manager my first role was to make sure everything was set up. I feel I did well setting up, and the cameras and monitors were working fine. I taped the cables to the floor and the wall in order to prevent somebody tripping. If I was to criticize myself, it would be to research the cables more and fully know what goes where without having any help.

During the break, I had to move the table back slightly behind the stools, and bring in the Modern Warfare 2 poster into shot for Shaun's live interview. After the interview a package was played, in which I changed back the set to how it originally was.

During the show I was also a camera operator. I operated Camera C which was Charlotte's camera. I set up the shot for a medium close up on Charlotte, but relied on Blake or Shaun to tell me if the shot looks bad on the monitor. I framed the shot to a suitable standard, only once did I have to rearrange the shot because there was a bit too much head room.

After the show, I help pack away the cameras and monitors. We all were glad to get the show done, and felt happy with how it went, even with a light technical difficulty, but to get a show to be perfect on a first attempt is asking a lot, and even professional shows that have been on the air for years will still have the odd slip up.

Overall I feel the show went really well, and we didn't have any major slip ups to work on if we were to do this task again. We planned well ahead, went through run throughs, and had all we needed ready to start the show.

Show Time

The day of the show, and we still had last minute preperations. Our show didn't start until 4:30, and we had the room set up a couple of hours before hand, so we had time. In this time we managed to create an opening with pictures we took of each of our crew.

As floor manager I had to prepare the set. The green screen was already set up, just had to set up the monitors and cameras, and make sure all cables were connected and taped to the floor.

Monday 21st March 2010 - Day before the live show

They day before the live show, we took the time to completely have everything ready for Tuesday. We ran through the script and made sure we had all the camera angles prepared for each of the presenters lines.

We also had to have our packages finished and ready to go onto a tape. Due to the other group having priority on the computers to get their packages ready for the show, this held the group back slightly, but we had most of what we needed ready.

Multi-Camera Production Planning

For this project, my group are to produce a 30 minute multi-camera broadcast, 10 minutes being live.

So far we have brainstormed possible ideas, and then assigning these ideas to each member to produce a package which will go into the half hour slot. My group consists of Blake, Charlotte, Jasmine, Lewis, Shaun and myself. We had watched some examples in class on different styles of editing and live editing, such as stand up comedy from Michael Mcintyre and quiz shows such as Q.I.

Today we had another meeting to discuss into further detail on who is going to do what role during broadcast. The options being a director, presenters, camera operator, editor, and floor manager. We decided as a group that the director will be Shaun, the presenters are Charlotte and Lewis, Blake as editor, and Jasmine and myself as camera operators and floor managers. We also discussed what images/video footage we can use for green screen effect. For my package, it will be based on music. At the moment I am still undecided on what areas of music I will be focusing on, whether it be concerts, unsigned artists or album reviews.

For the second part of the lesson today we got to try out the live editing equipment and how we need to set it up.
